Naturepedic EOS Classic Organic Vegan review: wool free, and the most adjustable bed we compare

The EOS Classic Organic Vegan does two things no other mattress in our comparison does. It uses no wool and no animal materials, and it lets each side of the bed be set to a different firmness, from Plush to Extra Firm.

Its case rests on a modular build: a 3 inch organic latex comfort layer over an 8 inch encased coil layer, inside a zippered organic cotton encasement. Its weak point is price. The Queen price shown at checking, $3,679.20, was the highest in our comparison, and it was a sale price.

Most organic mattresses use wool as their flame barrier. This EOS Classic variant uses none, which makes it the pick for a buyer who wants certified organic materials without animal products. Fire protection comes from a plant based PLA batting, and the certifications on the brand's page include GOTS, GOLS, EWG Verified, MADE SAFE, PETA Approved Vegan, GREENGUARD Gold and UL Formaldehyde Free.

It is also the most adjustable mattress in our comparison. Five firmness levels, the option to set each side of the bed differently, and a modular build of a 3 inch organic latex comfort layer over an 8 inch encased coil layer, inside a zippered organic cotton encasement. Inside the 100 night trial, comfort layers can be exchanged free instead of returning the bed, under a 25 year limited warranty.

Construction

What is inside it

In the brand's published build, three things do the work:

Fire protection comes from a plant based PLA batting rather than wool. The mattress is 12 inches high.

Certifications on the brand's page include GOTS, GOLS, EWG Verified, MADE SAFE, PETA Approved Vegan, GREENGUARD Gold and UL Formaldehyde Free. Our certifications guide explains what each one checks.

Firmness

Choosing a firmness, and changing it later

Five firmness levels run from Plush to Extra Firm, and the two sides of the bed can differ. Naturepedic's own guidance on the product page is that side sleepers typically do best with a softer feel such as Plush or Medium, because those levels allow more give at the shoulders and hips.

The safety net is the exchange. Inside the 100 night trial, comfort layers can be exchanged free instead of returning the bed, so a side sleeper can start at Medium and move to Plush without returning the bed.
