Head to head

Avocado Green vs Birch Natural: certification depth or the lowest entry price

Both are hybrids that pair GOLS certified organic latex with individually wrapped coils, and both list GREENGUARD Gold. Avocado lists more certifications and offers three feels. Birch has the lowest entry price in our comparison and one medium firm feel.

Hybrids feel a little more familiar if you are coming from a spring mattress, and the coils help air move through the bed. If you want all latex instead, see the PlushBeds vs Avocado guide.

How to read this table

Prices are the prices shown on each brand's own website on November 5, 2026. Neither brand's verified figure is a Queen price: Avocado's is a starting price that rises with size and feel, and Birch's is a range across sizes. Check the Queen price for the size and feel you want on each brand's own page.

Birch trial note: older Birch pages still describe a 120 night trial. Go by the current return policy page, which says 365 nights.

In detail

The two mattresses, one by one

Our pick

Avocado Green Mattress, the certified hybrid with a year to decide

  • 1 year trial, returns after 30 days
  • 25 year limited warranty
  • Firm, Medium or Plush
  • Who it is forBuyers who want the deepest certification list and a full year to decide, or a choice of three feels.
  • Who it is not forA buyer for whom the lowest entry price comes first. The Birch starts lower.
  • Honest weaknessReturns open only after 30 days, and a return carries a $99 fee.

Avocado's argument is certification depth. The Green Mattress is certified organic at the finished product level under GOTS, and the brand lists five further standards for the whole mattress, including OEKO-TEX Standard 100 Class I, EWG Verified, MADE SAFE, GREENGUARD Gold and UL Formaldehyde Free. The latex is GOLS certified organic Dunlop over up to 1,379 individually wrapped coils in seven zones, needle tufted by hand in California.

The Medium feel carries 3 inches of latex at 11 inches high and is the brand's most popular. Plush carries 5 inches at 13 inches high and is positioned for side sleepers. Firm carries 2 inches at 11.5 inches. The trial is a full year, with a $99 return fee, and the warranty runs 25 years with the first 10 non prorated. Avocado also states that its Green Mattress line sets no weight limit.

Birch Natural, the value hybrid from a big maker

  • 365 night trial
  • Limited lifetime warranty
  • One medium firm feel
  • Who it is forBuyers who want the lowest entry price with long terms.
  • Who it is not forA side sleeper who knows they need a soft surface. Avocado's Plush feel is positioned for side sleepers.
  • Honest weaknessA shorter certification list than Avocado's, GOLS and GREENGUARD Gold, and older Birch pages that still describe a 120 night trial. Go by the current return policy page, which says 365 nights.

Birch is Helix Sleep's natural brand, and the Natural is its straightforward medium firm hybrid: an organic cotton cover, GOLS certified organic latex from Sri Lanka, organic New Zealand wool and individually wrapped steel coils, assembled in Arizona. Certifications listed on Birch's own pages are GOLS and GREENGUARD Gold, a shorter list than Avocado's, and the price range shown on its product page, $1,030 to $1,965 across sizes, is the lowest entry point in our comparison.

Terms are strong for the price: a 365 night trial on Birch's current policy pages, with a $99 removal fee on returns, and a limited lifetime warranty. There is only one feel to choose, which keeps the decision simple and will not suit a side sleeper who knows they need a soft surface.

The short version

Our pick: Avocado Green Mattress

The deepest certification list, a choice of three feels and a full year to decide, with returns after 30 days and a $99 return fee. If the lowest entry price with long terms matters most and a medium firm feel suits you, the Birch Natural is the better fit.
